Overview

Transportation Engineer 1 (TE1), PN's for Ohio Department of Transportation.

What You Will Do
  • Complete ODOT’s Transportation Civil Engineering Program to include a 12 month training plan and scheduled rotation through the department’s core engineering disciplines:
    Planning & Engineering, Construction, and Highway Maintenance.
  • Receive a thorough introduction to the three core civil engineering disciplines and work alongside ODOT professional engineers.
  • Gain hands-on transportation training and experience to further your career as an engineer with ODOT.
Responsibilities
  • In Construction: inspect standard projects to ensure contractor compliance with plans and guidelines; maintain project records; perform surveying functions; identify engineering changes; perform material testing assignments.
  • In Engineering: develop detailed construction plans in roadway, pavement, drainage, structures, signing, lighting, rehabilitation and replacement; perform work in CADD and related software; coordinate construction plans with project management and external stakeholders; conduct field reviews and review existing documentation to inform proposed conditions; review other sections’ work for conformance.
  • In Planning: analyze traffic and safety conditions; review signs, markings, and signals for compliance; conduct safety and operational studies; assist LPAs with traffic studies and funding applications; develop project scopes and ensure environmental regulations are met; support LPAs with funding applications and project development.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; accepted for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
  • Active or eligible for EIT certification.
