Charles River Laboratories is seeking a Technician I for our Necropsy team at the Safety Assessment site in Ashland, Ohio. The successful candidate will work 4/10 shifts, either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday, 8:00 am‑6:30 pm, with weekend rotation, holiday rotation and overtime required.
Job SummaryA Technician I is in training to perform and become proficient in onboarding skills, procedures, and teamwork. The technician learns basic skills required to conduct a study, which may include animal handling, euthanasia, sedation, dissection, sample collection and weighting; laboratory preparation, setup, cleaning; and preparation of laboratory solutions. Supervision is close to gain proficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals through gentle, positive interactions.
- Train in onboarding skills: animal handling, euthanasia, sedation, dissection, sample collection, weighting, lab prep, setup, cleaning, solution preparation.
- Performs core skill functions within training schedule.
- Collect, document, review, and validate data using forms or electronic systems.
- Review documentation of functions for quality control.
- Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
- Study anatomical terms.
- Receive, track, and prepare samples or materials as required.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Pay
: $19 per hour. Salaries vary within the range based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
- Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred. - Experience:
No previous experience required. - Combination of education and experience may substitute for listed requirements.
- Certification/Licensure:
None unless locally required. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize to achieve goals.
- Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office) and ability to learn a validated system.
- Maintain a safe working environment by following safety procedures and using protective gear.
- Ensure integrity of studies by following GLP, SOP, BOP, and IACUC rules.
- Will work extended hours beyond normal schedule, including evenings, weekends, and short‑notice shifts.
- Work under specific time constraints.
- Lift, move, manipulate, or hold heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
- Perform laboratory procedures requiring standing, sitting, reaching, and wearing PPE.
- Maintain close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus.
- Laboratory setting involving sharp objects, mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, biological hazards, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate noise levels.
- May occasionally work weekends/holidays and/or rotating on‑call schedule.
