Position: Technician I, Necropsy

Technician I, Necropsy – Charles River Laboratories

We are seeking a Technician I for our Necropsy team at our Safety Assessment site located in Ashland, Ohio
. Candidate will be working 4/10s either Monday‑Thursday or Tuesday‑Friday 8a‑6:30p; weekend rotation, holiday rotation, and overtime are required for this role.

A Technician I is in training to perform and become proficient in onboarding skills, procedures, and cooperating in a team environment. The technician is learning basic skills required to conduct a study, which may include animal handling, euthanasia, sedation, animal procedures including dissection, collection of samples and weights, laboratory preparation, set up and cleaning, and preparation of laboratory solutions. The technician is working under close supervision to gain proficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals worked with through gentle, positive human‑animal interactions.
  • Train in onboarding skills which may include animal handling, euthanasia, sedation, dissection, sample collection and weights, laboratory preparation, set up and cleaning, and preparation of laboratory solutions. Specific skills will be based on each area’s training plan and business needs.
  • Prosect and perform functions in a time frame set by training group for core skill completion.
  • Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms, or in electronic data capture systems.
  • Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements.
  • Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
  • Learn and know anatomic terms.
  • Receive, track, and prepare samples or materials, as required for the department.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) preferred.
  • Experience:

    No previous experience required.
  • Certification/Licensure:
    None, unless required by local government.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and validated system.
  • Ability to ensure a safe working environment by observing safety procedures.
  • Ability to ensure study integrity by performing activities according to GLP, SOP, BOP, IACUC rules.
  • Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.
  • Ability to work under specific time constraints.
Physical Demands
  • Employees must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform laboratory procedures requiring long periods of standing, sitting, entering data, reaching, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment per OSHA regulations.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment
  • Works in a research laboratory environment with sharp objects, mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, biological hazards, fumes, airborne particles, and noise levels ranging from quiet to moderately noisy.
Comments
  • May occasionally work weekend/holidays and/or rotating on‑call schedule.
