Responsible for administering nursing service in accordance with current applicable guidelines and regulations to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times. Act as the resident advocate and assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the quantity and quality of the resident care given on assigned shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Direct day‑to‑day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with rules, regulations and guidelines established by the Ohio Department of Health and CMS Life Safety Code, ensuring personnel providing direct care to residents follow the residents’ care plan and wishes.
- Direct the LPN that may be working the same unit in accordance with rules, regulations and guidelines established by the Ohio Board of Nursing, ensuring care is provided to residents in accordance with the residents’ care plan and wishes.
- Monitor assigned staff to ensure they follow established safety regulations and infection control techniques in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Ensure proper administration of all treatments and medications, including narcotics.
- Administer IV medications and fluids via peripheral or central lines within the assigned unit and as needed throughout the building, as directed by the Nursing Supervisor.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Meet with assigned staff and support personnel to plan the shift’s services, programs, and activities; provide written and oral reports and recommendations concerning the activities of the shift using a 24‑hour report form.
- Complete accident/incident reports as necessary, report changes in condition, and ensure appropriate documentation regarding such in the medical record.
- Receive physician’s telephone orders and transcribe orders to resident chart, care plan, medication, and treatment records.
- Chart nurses’ notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident and the resident’s response to that care.
- Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, and make recommendations to unit managers/supervisors concerning employee discipline, dismissals, transfers, etc.
- Inspect the nursing service treatment areas, resident lounges, and rooms to ensure they are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Review complaints and grievances made by the resident/family, making written and/or oral reports to the nurse managers; report all allegations of abuse and begin immediate investigation.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISES:
Nursing Assistants
Position requires licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, active license in the State of Ohio.
ExperienceLong‑term care experience is preferred.
Skills & Abilities- Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and transfer residents (25–50 lbs).
- Compassionate, friendly, kind, and understanding of the needs of the elderly.
- Make proper judgments.
- Possess a high degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene.
- Cooperate with supervisors, fellow employees, and other departments.
- Function independently; have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and families.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with a wide range of people.
- Flexibility in managing schedule, including weekends and evening hours.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license, access to reliable insured transportation, and ability to meet LSS insurance standards.
- Stand/walk for extended periods.
- Climb/stoop/kneel as needed.
- Lift/push/pull up to 25 lbs, 25–50 lbs, 50–100 lbs, and over 100 lbs as required.
- Use hands for typing, writing, and other activities involving finger/grasping.
- Sit for extended periods.
Normal facility working conditions with the absence of disagreeable elements.
