PositionSummary
The Estimator at Marmic Fire and Safety will be responsible for accurately assessing the costs associated with fire protection and safety projects. This role involves preparing detailed cost estimates, analyzing project requirements, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure that bids are competitive and align with project specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost estimation, project management, and the fire protection industry, with excellent analytical and communication skills.
CoreResponsibilities
- Cost Estimation and Analysis:
Develop accurate and detailed cost estimates for fire protection and safety projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead. Analyze project blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to determine project scope and requirements. Conduct site visits and assess project conditions to identify potential cost factors and risks. - Bid Preparation and Submission:
Prepare and submit comprehensive bids and proposals, ensuring they meet client specifications and project requirements. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and refine estimates. Review and adjust estimates based on feedback and changes to project scope or specifications. - Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
Obtain and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality. Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors to secure favorable rates and maintain cost control. Integrate subcontractor and vendor costs into overall project estimates. - Cost Control and Budget Management:
Monitor and track project costs throughout the lifecycle to ensure adherence to budgets and identify potential variances. Provide recommendations for cost‑saving measures and value engineering opportunities to optimize project budgets. Prepare detailed cost reports and analysis for review by project managers and senior leadership. - Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and organized records of estimates, bids, and related documentation. Prepare and present cost analysis reports, including comparisons of estimated versus actual costs. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and contractual requirements in all estimation activities. - Continuous Improvement and Best Practices:
Stay current with industry trends, market conditions, and changes in fire protection technology and regulations. Implement and promote best practices in cost estimation and project management. Provide feedback and suggestions for improving estimating processes and tools.
- NICET Level 2 (Required)
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (relevant certifications are a plus).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in cost estimation, preferably within the fire protection or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection systems, materials, and installation processes.
- Proficiency in estimation software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and generate accurate cost estimates.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- NICET Level 3 Fire Alarm or Special Hazards (preferred)
- Master’s degree or relevant certifications preferred.
