Civil Engineer pay range for this posting is $63,586- $114,454
Sr Civil Engineer pay range for this posting is $75,828- $136,489
AS A CIVIL ENGINEER YOU WILLPerform complex professional work involving construction management of City CIP projects to ensure they are implemented on schedule, within the project budget, and in accordance with the plans and specifications. Perform plan reviews and ensure that all land development review and permitting services conform to code for site and subdivision development, stormwater management, and land disturbing operations. Manage various programs, such as the Stormwater Program, including the MS4 Permit, and Community Rating System.
This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification or equivalent preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Requires considerable contact with other City departments and contractors.
- Duties may be performed in the evening and on weekends and holidays.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.

AS A SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER YOU WILLProvide full management and support to planning, design, and construction for the Department of Public Works with an emphasis on infrastructure management for the City of Hampton. Supervise and direct project team members to ensure promptness of schedule within budget and requirements of the City's Stormwater Management Program. This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
- Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in Civil Engineering.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Virginia or have the ability to obtain licensure within one (1) year of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- Requires considerable contact with other City departments and contractors.
