Job Title: Bakery Cake Designer

Responsible for decorating bakery items and assisting customers with bakery orders by telephone and in person. Provides courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to maintain a positive company image.

Reports to:
District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home;
Bakery Department Manager.
- Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring and patience.
- Greet customers with a smile and address them by name whenever possible.
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out‑of‑reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and enhancing the shopping experience.
- Answer the telephone promptly and take product orders.
- Takes customer orders at the bakery counter.
- Collaborate with co‑workers to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Check daily orders, set up timelines, and maintain production schedules.
- Decorate bakery items in a timely manner and stay current on new designs and trends.
- Ensure department standards are met and check cake orders for details.
- Order supplies for decorating area and verify orders.
- Deliver products and set up wedding cakes on site (outside the store).
- Communicate with bakery manager regarding displays, weekly ads, and special needs.
- Check product dates, pull cases for work, and list items to fill or replace.
- Develop bakery orders for bakers daily.
- Track daily retail production and identify tasks to be completed.
- Lead part‑time or other employees, instructing and reviewing work.
- Participate in employee cross training.
- Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
- Adhere to company policies and store guidelines.
- Report to work on time according to schedule.
- Wrap product as necessary.
- Assist in other store areas as needed.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects.
- Problem‑solving ability for practical tasks with limited standardization.
- Arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- File, post, mail materials; copy data; interview for basic information; guide people and provide basic direction.
High school diploma or equivalent; six months or less of similar or related work experience.
Physical Requirements- Exert up to 100 lbs (shared team lifting) occasionally; up to 50 lbs frequently; up to 10 lbs constantly.
- Vision requirements: viewing from less than 20 inches up to more than 20 ft, with or without correction; color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
- Perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Store environment with pressure to meet deadlines, handle multiple priorities, and exposure to flour dust, noise, cleaning chemicals, residual fumes, and temperature extremes.
Equipment UsedStandard bakery tools: mixers, ovens, turntables, tips, bags, airbrush, telephone copy cake machine, and intercom system.
ContactsDaily contact with general public taking orders; weekly contact with suppliers/vendors.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen.
