Properties Assistant – Aspen Opera Theater & VocalARTS

The Properties Assistant works under the supervision of the Properties Coordinator and Production Manager of the Aspen Opera Theater & Vocal

ARTS (AOTVA) program at the Aspen Music Festival & School (AMFS). The AOTVA program is under the co-artistic direction of Renée Fleming and Patrick Summers. The upcoming season will present operas at the 2,050 seat Klein Music Tent and Historic Wheeler Opera House throughout an encompassing 8-week summer season. This season’s mainstage productions will be Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Mozart’s Magic Flute.

• Procure or create hand props and furniture for all assigned productions.
• Assist the Properties Coordinator in maintaining a well-organized props inventory.
• Pull stock items for weekly masterclass needs.
• Assist in the painting and final dressing of scenic pieces.
• Serve as props and/or scenic run crew for all productions.

• Currently pursuing or graduated with a BA/BFA in a Technical Theater degree with a concentration in props or scenic design or equivalent professional experience.
• Candidate should have a strong knowledge of historical periods and design styles.
• Candidate must have sensitivity to the needs of student performers and staff and a proven ability to work well with others.
• Candidates must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and materials or, of greater weights in tandem with additional crew member assistance and be comfortable and confident climbing stairs, ladders and catwalks.
• Candidates must have a valid driver’s license. Access to a vehicle is preferable for the duration of the summer but not required. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.

June 15, 2026-August 28, 2026

$15.16/hour plus housing provided by AMFS (valued at a minimum of $5.16/hour depending on location.) Overtime $22.74/hour

Benefits include AMFS season pass and paid sick time.
