Adjunct Faculty, Mathematics

Primary Responsibility

The adjunct faculty members of Colorado Mountain College are here to assist students in their learning process by utilizing all appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available which complement the teaching process. The faculty members need to be committed to facilitating learning throughout our communities. Although teaching is the most important role of the faculty, the needs of our learners are also served when faculty are engaged in scholarly endeavors as well as service activities.

The college seeks innovative facilitators of learning who are active in the art of teaching and passionate about extending academic opportunities to all students. Colorado Mountain College is an institution offering associate and bachelor's degrees with a focus on positive classroom experiences and excellent outcomes for all students. CMC does not conduct research but instead focuses on excellence in teaching and learning in diverse classroom settings and programs.

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in the specific program or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include:

• A minimum of a master's degree in a specific degree for the position being recruited or a Master's Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in a related field (e.g., business, finance, management, marketing).
• Minimum of one-year full-time teaching experience or the equivalent as an adjunct instructor. Higher education teaching experience preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the duties of the position.
• Knowledge of pedagogy, teaching experience of at least two years, strong background in computers and technology, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with students, employees, and community members of all backgrounds. Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities are preferred. This position requires residency in Colorado and work within the state. It is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Duties

The following responsibilities ensure consistency and align with evaluation and promotion procedures:

• Teaching assigned courses, developing lesson plans, and evaluating student learning.
• Developing course outlines and syllabi, maintaining accurate records, and being available for student consultations.
• Participating in advising, orientation, registration, recruitment, and curriculum evaluation activities.
• Engaging in scholarly activities, service activities, committee participation, mentoring, assessment, and program review.
• Representing the college professionally and engaging in required professional development.

Supervision of the Position

Reports to the Assistant Dean of Instruction or designee. May supervise student employees.

Special Conditions of Employment

Successful background check and adherence to safety policies are required. May involve travel and evening/weekend hours.

Working Conditions

Requires sitting, walking, standing, driving, handling objects, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs, and constant communication. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment, with occasional driving.
