The CCU Staff Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her CCU assigned patients. This includes assessment of patient needs, including life‑threatening emergencies, development of a nursing plan of care, administration and evaluation of nursing care, and supervision of others in the delivery of nursing care.
Job RequirementsKnowledge of/Skill/Ability to: A thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedure; knowledge and skills in techniques of good patient care applicable to the critical care environment. Must be able to read and write English as well as speak and understand English.
License/CertificationRN currently licensed with the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN). BLS required upon hire through the American Heart Association and kept current thereafter. Current ACLS certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire for experienced nurses and six months for new graduates, thereafter kept current. PALS/ENPC required within six months of hire and TNCC/TEAM required within six months of hire and thereafter kept current.
EducationAnd/or Experience
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with diploma, ADN, or BSN degree. Previous satisfactory acute care hospital experience of one year required. Previous satisfactory Critical Care experience relevant to the patient population of this unit or completion of an approved Critical Care course. CCRN preferred. For RNs graduating within the last 12 months, or RNs that have not practiced in an acute care facility within the last 24 months and have not previously completed a residency program, completion of the CMH‑provided program will be required.
PhysicalDemands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
Works inside. Walking and standing much of the time while on duty. Long shifts and occasional overtime necessary. Ability to lift and transfer patients is required, usually with assistance of co‑workers. Normal or corrected vision and hearing are required. Manual dexterity required to operate equipment. Subject to physical and emotional stress of fast‑paced work environment. Occasional exposure to infectious diseases. Pushes/pulls loaded adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts and equipment carts.
Transfers patients to/from cars, stretchers, beds, chairs, and ambulates as necessary. Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling for 8–12 hours (shift dependent). Lifts or carries up to 50 lbs.
