Nuclear Turbine Manager Position Overview

Looking to staff this position to support multiple Nuclear stations in the South and Northeast. The Nuclear Turbine Manager plays a pivotal role within the operational hierarchy of a nuclear power facility, overseeing the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all turbine systems. This position demands not only deep technical expertise in turbine engineering and nuclear safety, but also exceptional leadership, strategic planning, and communication skills.

The Nuclear Turbine Manager is entrusted with the management of turbine maintenance, optimization programs, regulatory compliance, staff training, budgeting, and the ongoing evolution of performance standards.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Turbine Operations Management:
    Direct and coordinate the daily functioning of steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment within the nuclear plant. Ensure adherence to all operational specifications and optimize output while maintaining the highest safety standards.
  • Maintenance Oversight:
    Lead scheduled, preventive, and corrective maintenance activities for turbine systems. Develop and implement robust maintenance schedules and protocols to maximize equipment lifespan and minimize unplanned outages.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
    Guarantee full compliance with nuclear safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices. Liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure all documentation and reporting are accurate and timely.
  • Staff Leadership and Training:
    Manage, mentor, and develop a team of turbine operators, technicians, and engineers. Oversee training programs to ensure staff are proficient in the latest technologies, operational procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
    Analyze operational data, implement predictive analytics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance turbine efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    Develop and manage budgets for turbine operations, maintenance, and upgrades. Ensure resource allocation aligns with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Emergency Response:
    Lead the turbine operations team in emergency situations, coordinating with other plant management and external agencies to execute rapid, effective responses.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    Prepare comprehensive reports on turbine performance, incidents, maintenance activities, and compliance status for both internal management and regulatory bodies.
  • Technology Evaluation and Implementation:
    Research advancements in turbine technology, recommend upgrades, and oversee the implementation of new systems or processes to keep the facility at the forefront of industry standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Communicate with other department heads, corporate leadership, and external partners to ensure turbine operations are fully aligned with overall plant objectives.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced certifications in turbine technology, nuclear operations, or project management are highly desirable.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of 8 years’ experience in turbine operation or maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role within a nuclear power facility.
  • Technical Expertise:
    Thorough understanding of steam turbine systems, generator operations, control systems, and nuclear plant protocols. Proficiency with diagnostic tools, predictive maintenance software, and root cause analysis.
  • Regulatory Knowledge:
    Deep familiarity with NRC, OSHA, and EPA regulations as they pertain to nuclear turbine operations and environmental safety.
  • Leadership

    Skills:

    Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Communication:
