Desk Assistant
University of Georgia:
University Housing – position number G/R31232P – advertised salary $11.75 per hour – anticipated start date 12/01/2025 – full‑time, 50% FTE – scheduled start in Athens, GA.
- Must be enrolled at least half‑time during the fall and spring semesters (minimum six credit hours for undergraduates and professionals; five credit hours for graduate students). Summer terms and final semester credit requirements may differ.
- Must be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct and University Housing (no policy violations that would prevent performing assigned tasks; if charged with a violation, must complete any sanctions by the prescribed deadline).
- Student employees are temporary employees. A temporary employee may be separated at any time for any reason without notice and either party may end the employment relationship. Such separation is not grievable or subject to appeal.
- May not exceed 20 work hours per week across all student staff positions if held in multiple departments, unless classes are not in session and prior permission is granted.
- May not exceed 6 consecutive hours of work per shift.
- Must be available to work a minimum of 8 desk shift hours weekly (overnight shifts for Night Desk Assistants, weekends, academic breaks, holidays).
- Must work during some home football games as required by the assigned community.

Responsibilities- Provide exemplary customer service to all residents, guests, visitors, faculty and staff who interact with community desks and office spaces.
- Function as a resource for accurate information concerning Housing and university operations.
- Support the community office staff by performing assigned administrative responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
- Assist in the opening, closing, and transition of residence halls, including early arrival and late departures, and working during break periods and finals week.
- Support, communicate, enforce, and abide by all university and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Follow appropriate protocols in addressing incidents and potential policy violations.
- Assist community office staff during a crisis or emergency, maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Participate in all departmental and community training.
- Participate in all meeting activities, including staff meetings, community staff meetings, and one‑on‑one meetings with the supervisor.
- Follow appropriate community desk policies and procedures, including key management, equipment check‑out, and access control.
- Sort, record, distribute and forward mail, packages, and newspapers according to United States Postal Service regulations and community procedures.
