Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience. Certified Decentralized Limited Signature Authority (DLSA) Practitioner designation (Phase III) required.

Position Summary: This is a highly responsible senior managerial/professional position within the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center and the Center for Molecular Medicine. The position reports to the Center directors. The role manages the Centers' grant activities from pre‑award through termination, coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Projects and funding agencies, assists faculty with proposal preparation, and administers awards that generate over $20 million in external funding.

The position requires exceptional oral and written communication skills, meeting deadlines, and serving on institutional committees.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Exhibits thorough knowledge of institutional and sponsor policies and procedures pertaining to external funding.
  • Maintains DLSA status for submission of proposals to external funding agencies.
  • Assists faculty in proposal development and award administration by managing information entry and creating proposal sections independently or supervising staff.
  • Creates complex spreadsheets and other deliverables that cross multiple variables and summarize parameters.
  • Provides administration and direct support to Center faculty (and collaborators) in proposal development by interpreting agency policies and ensuring conformity, including budget development and submission, and managing grant reporting requirements until termination.
  • Signs Center proposals as the UGA Institutional Signatory and submits them directly to the funding agency.
  • Acts as liaison between the Centers, the Office of Sponsored Projects, and funding agencies.
  • Assesses and communicates proposal readiness and upcoming deadlines for submissions and mandatory progress reports.
  • Prepares administration portions of reports, submits on time, and incorporates faculty research inputs.
  • Writes justifications for special approvals and chartstring account additions.
  • Manages grant portal documentation for No Cost Extensions and Residual Balances.
  • Engages with pending awards to ensure seamless funding availability.
  • Attends Research Administration Discussion Group meetings and may chair campus‑wide task forces/committees.
  • Contributes to policy development and planning for grant and contract management.
  • Maintains knowledge of UGA, federal, state, and agency sponsored research guidelines.
  • Identifies funding sources, analyzes faculty research interests, and advises on grantsmanship.
  • Maintains a database for active and pending grant support for assigned faculty, including effort, budgets, periods, numbers, titles, and prepares required forms for NIH, DOE, NSF, USDA, etc.
