Gallery Guides help create a welcoming, inclusive and engaging environment for all museum guests. Serving as the first point of contact, gallery guides provide visitors with information about museum programming and its exhibitions while ensuring an enjoyable experience. In addition to enhancing visitors’ experiences, Gallery Guides work closely with the security team to help protect the museum, its staff and visitors from potential risks, including fire, theft, and accidents.
Flexibility is needed, including availability for weekend, evening, and holiday shifts.
Visitor Experience
- Warmly welcome, greet, orient, and direct visitors at the welcome desk or in the galleries.
- Be knowledgeable about and able to discuss the museum’s physical layout and architectural features, including galleries, restrooms, Sculpture Garden, exits and elevator.
- Facilitate spontaneous conversation about art.
- Assist visitors with inquiries about artists and exhibitions through engaging discussions.
- Promote museum memberships, the museum shop, events, programs, tours and special events.
- Review the daily schedule of events and communicate relevant information to other staff and museum guests as needed.
- Record visitor information and attendance in database system.
- Be familiar with Friends of GMOA (membership) benefits and promote Friend benefits to museum guests.
