Assistant or Associate Professor in Critical Minerals and Energy Resources

Position Summary: The Department of Geology at the University of Georgia invites applications for two tenure‑track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with a focus on critical mineral resources. Candidates will strengthen research in economic geology and geophysics, develop funded research programs, and engage in teaching at all levels.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a funded research program that advances the scientific field through peer‑reviewed publications, industry partnerships, and collaborations with government agencies.
  • Teach courses in Economic Geology or Geophysics, including classroom and field instruction in exploration techniques.
  • Conduct research projects on the formation, exploration, and production of critical mineral deposits, integrating field, laboratory, and modeling techniques.
  • Serve in a developmental role supporting university initiatives and shaping the next generation of scientists in mineral and energy resource issues.
  • Provide graduate (MS and PhD) and undergraduate (BS) teaching and research advisement.
Qualifications
  • PhD (or equivalent) in geology, geophysics, Earth science, or a related field.
  • Strong record in ore‑deposit research related to critical mineral resources.
  • For Economic Geology candidates: expertise in field, laboratory, and modeling techniques for mineral deposit exploration.
  • For Geophysics candidates: proven expertise in IP, resistivity, and EM techniques used in critical mineral exploration.
  • Academic credentials commensurate with promotion and tenure guidelines at UGA.
