Minimum Qualifications:
A doctoral degree in environmental health, gerontology, computational neuroscience, neurobiology, or a related discipline (e.g., biology, environmental science, public health, toxicology, etc.).
The Department of Environmental Health Science and Institute of Gerontology in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia seeks a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with an emphasis on One Health and environmental risk factors for neurodegenerative disease. This position is an academic year (9 month) appointment with an opportunity to supplement salary during the summer. The anticipated starting date for the position is August 1, 2026.
JobOverview
The successful candidate will have a joint position between the Department of Environmental Health Science (51%) and the Institute of Gerontology (49%), with an opportunity to work in the Cognitive Aging Research and Education (CARE) Center. The candidate will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and to establish and maintain an externally funded research program. Candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.

Appointments to the Associate Professor position require strong evidence of acquiring and administering external funding (current principal investigator with existing grants is preferred); strong evidence of ability to produce and communicate research; excellence in teaching and working with students; and a commitment to community engagement is expected.
Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or CertificationAt least two years of work experience after graduation with PhD (e.g., postdoctoral training or teaching) and relevant research publications.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesSuccessful candidates are expected to have a strong academic record in teaching, research, and service in One Health with a focus on environmental factors that contribute to aging, cognitive aging, dementia, or neurodegenerative disease. Integrated research bridging human-, animal-, and/or environmental systems via computational and/or integrative
-omics technologies is especially encouraged. Clinician-scientists (MD-PhD, Clinical neuropsychologists) are also encouraged to apply. Additional preferred qualifications include excellence in teaching and working with students, evidence of ability to submit strong (fundable) extramural grant proposals, ability to produce and communicate research.
