Temporary Environmental Educator at Camp Jekyll, located on Jekyll Island, GA. Primary responsibilities include independently leading K‑12 students through multidisciplinary outdoor classes focusing on life, earth, ecology and marine science. Additional duties encompass animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and support of general operations.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesIndependent instruction and student supervision – 60% of time.
General support of camp operations – 25% of time. Tasks include maintenance and upkeep of facilities, operating a UGA vehicle, dining support and project assistance.
Animal care and husbandry – 10% of time. Responsible for reptiles, amphibians, marine invertebrates, coastal fishes and other teaching animals.
Staff support for reservations and guests – 5% of time.

- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science or related field.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain.
- Teaching qualities: commitment, genuine interest in youth development, passion for education, enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
- Work qualities: dynamic personality, strong communication skills, positive attitude, creativity, leadership, integrity, relationship building.
- Teaching a wide variety of K‑12 subjects.
- Group management of adults and students.
- Broad knowledge of outdoor education.
- Effective communication with youth and adults.
- Customer service and hospitality/food industry experience.
- Teamwork and independence.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Care of live teaching animals.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Willingness to lift 20‑40 pounds and walk approximately 3 miles daily. Must drive and possess a valid driver’s license. Direct interaction with children under 18 and personal care duties required. Background investigation and drug testing may be required.
