Position Summary
The University of Georgia School of Medicine located in Athens, GA, is seeking an experienced, innovative faculty member who will serve as a Clinical Science Educator (MD, DO or equivalent) to teach across all four years of our undergraduate medical education curriculum in the areas of clinical skills, community and population health, simulation, and large‐group learning and small‑group facilitation. The role may also involve curriculum leadership and outpatient clinical care, with a preference for a primary‑care background.
The candidate will share in the development of this hybrid, systems‑based curriculum and may participate in educational research or scholarly endeavors.
- Candidates must have an MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
- Candidates must have Board Certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties. For those who have recently completed post‑graduate education, Board Certification is expected to occur within five years.
- Candidates should have or obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia, appropriate hospital credentials and privileges, and an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license.
Background in medical education is desirable but not mandatory. Preference will be given to individuals with training and certification in primary‑care specialties. Licensed physicians in any clinical specialty will be considered.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesPreference given to those with prior teaching experience in U.S. medical education programs, especially case‑based and active learning methods in small and large group settings, and to those who will actively engage in research or scholarship.
Duties / Responsibilities- Teaching/Instruction (≈ 80% time):
Teach clinical skills, community and population health, simulation, large‑group learning, and small‑group facilitation across all four years; serve in curriculum leadership roles; provide patient care and teaching in a school‑based or community public health clinic at least one day per week. - Research/Scholarship (≈ 10% time):
Participate in educational research or other scholarly endeavors with faculty in the department or partner universities; encourage scholarly activities among students and colleagues. - Service (≈ 10% time):
Serve on department or university committees; assist in academic advising and mentoring of students.
