Description
The Haskayne School of Business (HSB), University of Calgary, invites applications for two academic positions, appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (with Tenure) in AI and business. We seek candidates whose research examines questions on how AI is shaping the human and strategic core of business. This position is not intended for technical specialists or those who use AI primarily as an analytic or computational tool.
The ideal candidates investigate the organizational, behavioral, or strategic implications of AI, especially with the advent of generative AI. For example, how it influences decision‑making, strategy, innovation, markets, innovation, leadership, work, or culture. We will consider applicants in the following four academic areas:
Marketing, Organizational Behavior & Human Resources, Entrepreneurship, or Strategy. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to):
- AI's influence on firm strategy, competition, and capabilities
- Human‑AI collaboration, leadership, and the future of work
- AI‑enabled innovation, entrepreneurship, and market transformation
- AI in marketing, customer engagement, and consumer decision‑making
- AI governance, ethics, and responsible AI in organization
The successful candidates will contribute to HSB's growing strength in digital transformation and advance understanding of AI as a social, organizational, and strategic phenomenon in business. Candidates will be expected to advance a strong research program in AI and develop and teach courses that focus on AI in business education, covering topics such as Generative AI, AI and Innovation, the Strategic Management of AI, and the Ethical Application of AI in Business, depending on their disciplinary area.
Candidates must have completed (associate rank) or be nearing completion (assistant rank) of a Ph.D. in a relevant management (or related) discipline. We seek collegial candidates with a strong research orientation, with expectations contingent on rank (see below). Duties include research, teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the Area, the School, the University, and the community. The salary is competitive and will depend on qualifications, rank, experience, and research.
The appointment start date is July 1, 2026.
- Have high potential for excellence in research and scholarship, demonstrated by publications and/or invited revisions at top‑tier journals, such as those included in the FT‑50 list or equivalent leading journals in the field.
- Demonstrate an informed understanding of the capabilities and limitations of generative AI and its implications, sufficient to support research and teaching in the relevant discipline
- Demonstrate strong theoretical and methodological skills.
- Demonstrate excellent teaching skills through student evaluations, along with evidence of thoughtful adaptation of teaching methods to the availability of generative AI.
- Be prepared to provide service to the school, university, and profession.
- Be ready to supervise research‑based graduate students.
- Be motivated to apply for tri‑agency grants.
- Show a demonstrated capacity for thought leadership and research translation.
- Demonstrate a strong desire to conduct impactful research.
- Have a record of excellence in research and scholarship, demonstrated by multiple publications and invited revisions at top‑tier journals, such as those included in the FT‑50 list or equivalent leading journals in the field.
- Demonstrate an informed understanding of the capabilities and limitations of generative AI and its implications, sufficient to support research and teaching in the relevant discipline
- A history of successful Ph.D. student supervision.
- A past success in receiving tri‑agency grants (if in Canada) or a readiness to apply for grants (if outside Canada).
- A reputation for thought leadership and research translation.
