Position

Summary

The Department of Entomology invites applications for a 9‑month tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in insect ecology at the Athens campus. The appointment includes 70% research, 25% teaching, and 5% service. The successful candidate will build a nationally prominent, extramurally‑funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and engage in departmental and university service. Teaching loads align with high research expectations, and the candidate may teach courses in insect ecology, aquatic entomology, general entomology, insect natural history, or related areas.

Responsibilities
  • Build a nationally prominent, extramurally‑funded research program complementary to existing strengths in the department.
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students.
  • Contribute to service at the department and university level.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including the Georgia Museum of Natural History, the UGA Black Fly lab, and the CAES Research and Education Centers.
  • Engage in professional societies, outreach, and other outreach activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Entomology, Ecology, or related discipline.
Additional Requirements
  • Demonstrated training and expertise in field and empirical techniques in entomological, ecological, and/or biological sciences.
  • Record of scholarly activities in the field demonstrated by peer‑reviewed publications in leading journals.
  • Evidence of potential success in acquiring funding for research.
Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • Postdoctoral research experience, at least 1 year.
  • Prior success in competitive funding.
  • Demonstrated teaching and mentoring experience, at least 1 year.
  • Engagement with professional societies and outreach.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Experience in any aspect of insect ecology, including aquatic and riparian insects, predator‑prey and plant‑insect interactions, ecosystem roles, and insect biodiversity/conservation.
  • Substantial engagement with professional activities, scientific societies, and outreach.
