Principal / Senior Principal Engineer, BMS
Principal:
This position has the primary responsibility of providing advanced design, programming and troubleshooting support for BMS‑related production and project activities. Primary workload supports plant engineering, construction and maintenance work and focuses on automated controls for building HVAC, plant utility systems and certain process utility systems.
Senior Principal:
This role manages a team of BMS engineers and/or technical SMEs to serve as a BMS infrastructure and process‑specific expert for building & infrastructure (B&I) systems covering warehouse production, packaging, site cooler systems, facilities and utilities. The incumbent manages the EMS, BMS systems, facility process system integration, implementation, vendor management and provides onsite or off‑shift support calls.
Both positions require expertise in maintaining BMS compliance with BIAH SOPs, providing administrative services, supporting HVAC and utility system automation, troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis, developing system improvements, coordinating projects, designing and programming controls documents, and supervising other engineers or contractors as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities- Maintain BMS compliance with BIAH SOPs and current industry requirements.
- Provide administrative services, such as end‑user access and training, to ensure conformance.
- Support HVAC and utility system automation for production, maintenance and engineering, including troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Develop and implement system, facility, and production improvements aligned with end‑user and strategic needs.
- Provide support for BMS upgrades and oversee system server support and maintenance.
- Create preventive maintenance procedures and reliability‑based activities.
- Work closely with management to evaluate current systems and make decisions on future development.
- Communicate directly with end users on issues, potential resolutions, and scheduled activities while tracking BMS support utilization.
- Perform detailed design and programming of BMS controls documents for new installations and renovations.
- Coordinate project activities to minimize impact on production schedules and prevent system outages.
- Plan, process, and perform all job tasks efficiently with minimal supervision; supervise other engineers and contractors as needed.
- Master’s Degree in engineering or related field with 3 years relevant experience, or Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years experience, or Associate’s Degree with 7 years experience, or Technical/Trade School Certification with 10 years experience.
- Experience in maintenance/engineering roles such as controls, automation, project management, validation, electronics, refrigeration, and boiler operations.
- Experience with Building Management/Automation Systems.
- Minimum of 3 years in GMP‑regulated industry.
- Expertise with Siemens Apogee, Siemens Insight, and Siemens Desigo highly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of building and process automation systems related to biopharmaceutical validation/GMP.
- General knowledge of electronics, electrical wiring, communications equipment, HVAC equipment, and central utility equipment.
- General knowledge of mechanical maintenance, building construction, utility piping, and production machines.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with Good Engineering Practices, Commissioning, and Qualification.
- Understanding of biopharmaceutical regulations and GMP preferred.
- B.S. degree in Engineering, Automation, Business or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years relevant automation, BMS and/or control field experience in a regulated environment.
- Inclusive of at least 2 years leading people or complex projects from end to end.
- Experience with Building Management/Automation Systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of building and process automation systems and biopharma validation/GMP.
- General knowledge of electronics, wiring, communications, HVAC, and utilities.
Authorized to work in the United States without restriction, willing to take a drug test and post‑offer physical (if required), and 18 years of age or older.
