About the College/Unit/Department: The Office of University Architects (OUA) is responsible for campus master plan development and management, transportation planning, historic preservation, environmental planning, precinct planning; campus site design and architectural standards; GIS management; and project management of major capital projects across UGA campuses.

Responsibilities- Duties/Responsibilities: Provides engineering leadership for planning, design, construction, and warranty periods of facility engineering systems and infrastructure (civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, telecommunication, and security). May supervise other OUA employees and interact with UGA departments, design professionals, and contractors.
- Planning and budgeting: Provides planning advice and budgeting information for campus infrastructure and building systems for UGA projects.
- Collaboration: Works with OUA project managers, consulting engineers, design professionals, contractors, Facilities Management Division (FMD), University Housing, Auxiliary Services, and other operating/maintaining entities.
- Technical scope: Applies knowledge of civil/mechanical/electrical/plumbing/fire protection/telecommunication/security systems to project-specific design decisions; ensures adherence to codes and UGA standards.
- Standards and codes: Administers and updates UGA Design & Construction Standards at least biannually; ensures conformance with current building codes.
- Construction oversight: Reviews design documents, shop drawings, submittals, change orders, and provides constructability feedback; visits sites to monitor compliance; attends Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings.
- Commissioning: Manages commissioning process including RFQs/RFPs for Commissioning Agents, OPRs, and related scheduling; leads training and ensures proper handover and documentation.
- Costing and coordination: Maintains cost databases for commissioning agents and engineers; participates in coordination meetings; supports project management on MEP-intensive projects; supervises other engineering staff.
- Vendor and cost management: Maintains cost/fee databases; facilitates biweekly FMD/OUA coordination and monthly HVAC controls coordination meetings; provides project management input as needed.
- Supervision: Provides direct supervision of other engineering positions within OUA Facilities Planning.
- Additional duties: Other duties as assigned.
- Strong project management skills in a higher education facility management context.
- Ability to access confined spaces or elevated heights; valid driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle.
- Ability to review design drawings, narratives, calculations; review construction documents and code-related issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;
Bluebeam software. - Effective oral and written communication; diplomacy in sensitive matters; ability to manage staff and multiple projects.
- Knowledge of HVAC controls and BAS sequences; modern principles and practices of engineering; site/renovation assessment methods.
- Knowledge of building alteration, construction methods/materials, and preparation of estimates and specifications.
- Position visits construction sites including confined spaces and elevated heights; may occur in poor weather.
- Extended computer work; weekend/holiday site visits if emergencies arise.
