Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of science or engineering and 2 years of professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental regulatory compliance.
Position Summary

The Environmental Affairs Professional (EAP) works under general direction to proactively manage environmental regulatory compliance for the University of Georgia. The role oversees numerous state, federal, and local permitting, monitoring, and training responsibilities across multiple campus sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve and support the University mission in Environmental Compliance, overseeing integration of university, state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of environmental regulatory principles to ensure compliance and determine appropriate methods.
  • Design and implement corrective actions for non‑standard situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Track emerging issues with limited information and serve as a member or technical expert for institutional safety and compliance committees.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and improve compliance initiatives and programs across various legal areas, including but not limited to Title V, Clean Water Act, Underground Injection Control, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).
  • Work directly with administrators, faculty, and staff to assess permitting requirements for proposed activities.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and renewals, maintaining active permit status.
  • Conduct audits, identify compliance vulnerabilities, develop corrective action plans, and provide guidance to reduce risk.
  • Serve as primary resource for information, instruction, or clarification of environmental compliance matters.
  • Manage training and education initiatives, including Universal Waste plans, Spill Prevention plans, and compliance training.

Physical Demands

Walking, climbing stairs/ladders, lifting up to 40 lb, standing, sitting, exposure to hazardous noise, heat, humidity, or cold. Occasional weekend and non‑traditional hours. Work in various environments including labs and animal care facilities.
