Position Summary

Serve as the lab manager/research technician for Dr. Anumantha G Kanthasamy’s lab in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.

The laboratory conducts NIH‑funded basic research on neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory mechanisms in cell culture and preclinical mouse models of Parkinson’s disease and related neurological disorders. The translational research focuses on biomarker discovery in human samples and testing novel therapeutics in preclinical animal models.

Responsibilities
  • Experimental design and execution.
  • Assay optimization and validation.
  • Data collection and project management.
  • Perform behavioral, neurobiochemical, and histological assays on mouse models.
  • Organize and assist in implementation of research projects.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Proper disposal of biohazard waste.
  • Inventory, maintenance, and ordering of research supplies and equipment.
  • Animal care: daily monitoring, treatments, and management; assist with collection of blood and urine.
  • Professional communication with investigators and colleagues regarding workflow, project status, and time constraints.
  • Write reports and present findings to colleagues and supervisor.

  • Ability to work with rodents.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and consult stakeholders.
  • Basic computer skills in MS Word and Excel.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity for handling delicate equipment or heavy objects.
  • Wear protective gear (mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles).
  • Work for long periods with arms extended.
