Responsibilities- Design and implement campus GIS/ spatial data management system; engage in GIS data acquisition, development, and maintenance programs; develop policies and procedures for GIS data acquisition, development, maintenance, and distribution.
- Coordinate and oversee data collection from multiple internal and external stakeholders; monitor, track, and respond to system problems; recommend and coordinate troubleshooting procedures.
- Conduct geospatial analysis to support campus planning, design, and documentation; produce GIS‑based maps for OUA project management and campus departmental support.
- Research and monitor new technologies and trends related to GIS/remote sensing and other digital mapping solutions; recommend strategies for new technologies, products, systems, software; plan upgrades and replacements of existing systems.
- Oversee intern and consultant efforts related to GIS data collection, development, maintenance, and map publishing solutions.
- Provide GIS technical support, training, and outreach to campus community.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience.
- Master’s degree in Geographic Information Science & Technology or Bachelor’s degree in Geography.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience maintaining GIS data assets.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing enterprise GIS systems within a university or similar environment.
- GIS Database Design & Implementation:
Proficient in creating, maintaining, and managing GIS data layers (ESRI ArcGIS Suite, QGIS). - Spatial Data Management:
Skilled in PostGIS, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Spatial, ArcSDE. - Visualization:
Competent in Power BI and Tableau for geospatial data visualization. - Geospatial Research & Analysis:
Strong understanding of cartographic principles, LiDAR, remote sensing, and internet‑based mapping solutions. - Technical
Skills:
Scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, SQL) for GIS automation and application development. - Software Proficiency: ESRI, Autodesk, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Communication:
Excellent written, verbal, and graphic communication skills. - Data Acquisition & Integration:
Ability to manage data from diverse sources, including field notes, surveys, construction as‑builts, and remote sensing.
- Eight‑hour workday in a normal office environment at a computer.
- Occasional field work including travel to project locations within Athens or across the state.
- Stooping, bending, and reaching on site visits.
