This position reports to the Waste Reduction Supervisor. The role involves collecting and transporting materials including solid waste, recyclables, and organics, and managing the infrastructure required to perform these duties. Primary duties include operating solid waste vehicles such as front‑end loaders, hook lift trucks, cable hoist trucks, rear packers, pickup trucks and trailers, and a variety of large vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
The position will conduct routine vehicle and infrastructure inspection and maintenance.
Requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications- CDL Class B or Higher
- Prior related truck driving work experience
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repairs
- Experience working around sanitation/waste disposal equipment and infrastructure
- Experience working with automotive fluids, parts, inventory
- Experience operating Forklift and/or pickup truck and trailer
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B or higher
- Knowledge and understanding of CDL vehicles in the Waste Reduction Services Fleet, such as cable and/or hook Roll‑Off trucks, Front End Loaders (FEL), Rear Loaders (REL), and pull‑behind trailers
- Good safety record and considerable knowledge of the hazards involved in equipment operation and the safety precautions necessary
- Prior related truck driving work experience
- Walk, stoop, bend, squat, lift, climb stairs, sit, and stand throughout an 8‑hour shift
- Lift up to 75 lbs
- Exposure to potential workplace hazards such as sharp objects or hazardous materials
- Sitting in potentially bumpy, vibrating and/or loud vehicles
- Driving
- Perform routine waste management collections operations to transport and deliver landfill, recyclables, and organics materials (65%)
- Perform routine vehicle and infrastructure inspections and maintenance (20%)
- Execute support operations for seasonal events and activities such as sporting events, housing move‑in/out, and project work (10%)
- Perform other department‑related duties as assigned (5%)
