This is a benefits eligible, partial year position (August – May). Each selected candidate will sign a partial year agreement. Employees returning to work from designated partial-year leave periods are continued in the same position with no break in service and no change in the original hire date. Transport passengers with registered disabilities in an accessible van to and from various campus locations in accordance with applicable laws and department procedures.
Assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle as necessary. Inspect vehicle before, during, and after shift to ensure vehicle is in proper operating condition. Complete necessary paperwork, including timesheets and vehicle condition reports. Operate other vehicle equipment such as electronic AVL equipment and wheelchair ramps. Be trained to occasionally fill in in the front office answering phones and scheduling ADA pickups and drop-offs using Trans Loc software.
Be trained to occasionally drive library van route service between Athens and Atlanta. Occasional charters and special assignments. Drug and alcohol testing by the US Department of Transportation.
Requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and CompetenciesCommunication skills and work with people of various backgrounds, physical, emotional, and developmental disabilities, and skill levels. Work with computers and learn to operate company software.
Physical DemandsSitting for long periods of time. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Walking up to ¼ mile each way. Working in adverse climates when loading and transporting. Driving.
Duties / Responsibilities- Safe operation of ADA vans according to predetermined schedule and filing associated paperwork (75%)
- Work in front office scheduling ADA pickups (10%)
- Safe operation of vehicles on occasional charters or special assignments (5%)
- Safe operation of library van operating between Athens and Atlanta (5%)Occasional non-driving duties such as bus washing, attending safety meetings (5%)
