QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent plus 2 years of professional experience.
Position SummaryThe Feed Mill Manager coordinates the manufacture of poultry and swine research diets for the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The role oversees facility operations, renovation, regulatory compliance, SOP development, staff training and scheduling, budgeting, and financial coordination with internal clients. The position reports to the Department Head of Poultry Science and operates as an exempt, FLSA‑eligible role.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies- Thorough knowledge of livestock and poultry diet principles, methods, and techniques tailored to institutional needs.
- Knowledge of feed manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, and safety.
- Ability to plan and direct large-scale manufacturing activities and manage skilled and unskilled employees safely.
- Ability to maintain records, budgets, and SOPs and train staff to follow them.
- Lift 50 pounds or more.
- Driving required; must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Oversee feed manufacturing operations, scheduling, and facility management.
- Coordinate facility maintenance and renovation, working with vendors and department leadership (approx. 40% of time).
- Train staff on SOPs, safety, quality compliance, and supervise staff and students (15% of time).
- Budgeting: procure ingredients and supplies, prepare billing to investigators, and maintain financial adherence (5% of time).
- Ensure site safety and regulatory compliance for a food-producing animal feed facility, including drug and compound regulations.
- Provide back‑up animal husbandry and welfare support, including daily bird checks and environmental system operations.
Benefits Eligible under UGA TRS or ORP plan. Position is exempt, FLSA-eligible, and includes credit and P-card responsibilities. Background investigation is required.
