The transfer center nurse is responsible for inpatient bed management and working in collaboration with nursing units, environmental services, the emergency department, the surgery department, the cardiac catheterization lab, registration, and physicians in the assignment of patients to beds based on admitting diagnoses, physical and psychosocial conditions including infection status, floor specialization, level of care needed, attending physician, bed availability, and needs upon presentation to the facility to assure the patient is placed in the most appropriate bed in a timely manner.
The Transfer Center Nurse is responsible for tracking data for the facility regarding types of admissions, bed placement delays, and other quality indicators as required. The nurse also communicates with physicians to ensure patients coming into the facility are placed into the correct status and a status order is on the patient’s record. This position will also assure proper identification of principal and secondary diagnosis in collaboration with the treating physician.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with nursing units, environmental services, ed, surgery, cardiac cath lab, registration, and physicians to assign patients to beds appropriately and timely.
- Track facility data on admissions, bed placement delays, and quality indicators.
- Communicate with physicians to ensure correct patient status and status orders are recorded.
- Ensure accurate identification of principal and secondary diagnoses with the treating physician.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current GA RN license. BLS required – must be obtained within initial 90 days of employment.
- Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN recommended.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years' nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting.

Required:
Indirect and periodic supervision. Must be capable of working independently. - Ages Of Patients Served: Competence in assessment and care for the indicated age groups as appropriate to the assigned area.
