The St. Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides an individualized, compassionate healing environment by caring for patients ranging from critically ill premature infants to full‑term infants with minor illnesses.

DescriptionThe St. Mary’s NICU cares for premature infants and infants with various medical conditions. Our highly trained team attends every C‑Section and high‑risk delivery and commonly treats respiratory distress, sepsis, hypoglycemia, and complications of prematurity. The expert care allows families to keep their babies close by and in the same building as the Family Birth Center.
What You Will Do- Under limited supervision, assess patients, develop, evaluate, and modify care plans.
- Interpret and perform complex patient‑care procedures specific to your expertise.
- Member of the Care Team and Support Team, working collaboratively to accomplish patient outcomes identified in the pathway/plan of care.
- Provide care to assigned patients via therapeutic use of self, nursing process, environment/technology, and teamwork according to established standards.
- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing or deemed substantially equivalent.
- Successful completion of a refresher course within the past 6 months if nursing practice has not occurred within the past 5 years.
- Prior experience in NICU preferred.
- Compassionate and transforming healing presence guided by the Gospel.
- Guiding behaviors: support each other, communicate openly, honestly, and respectfully, be fully present, hold each other accountable, trust and assume goodness in intentions, and continuous learning.
- Based in beautiful Athens, Georgia – a regional hub with the University of Georgia and renowned cultural amenities.
