Veterinary Fellow II
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience.
Position Summary: The University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine is an American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care approved residency training facility for large animal resident (3 years) and fellowship (2 years) programs. This intermediate position is suited for applicants who have completed specialty training DVM positions (internship and residency) before applying for faculty or private practice roles. The caseload is ~85% equine and the remainder small ruminants, new world camelids, and cattle.
The incumbent will be mentored by four emergency and three critical care clinicians. Upon completion, the incumbent will be credentialed to take the board certification exam in large animal emergency and critical care.
- Valid Georgia veterinary license or willingness to obtain one.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with faculty and staff.
- Effective communication with referring veterinarians, house officers, and veterinary students.
- DVM or equivalent; 4 years post‑DVM clinical experience, including completion of an equine or large animal surgery approved by American College of Veterinary Surgeons, preference for significant clinical, laboratory, and didactic teaching experience.
- Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons—Large Animal is preferred.
- Motivation to be an active part of a busy large animal teaching hospital service.
- Normal working conditions for a veterinary environment.
- Lift 50 lbs.
- Participate in the Large Animal Emergency Critical Care Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
- Participate in clinical teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents.
- Primary participation in the department’s large animal emergency critical care rotations.
- Small amount of classroom and laboratory teaching in veterinary student courses.
- Instructional responsibilities supervised by the four emergency and critical care clinicians.
- Participate in scholarly activity and complete at least one original manuscript during the program.
