Responsibilities
  • Assess injury or disease in small animal cases brought to the emergency room.
  • Communicate with owners, prescribe medication, set bones, dress wounds, and run life‑saving protocols (CPR, oxygen, emergency medications).
  • Collect tissue, blood, feces, urine and other bodily fluids for examination and analysis.
  • Euthanize animals when necessary.
  • Follow hospital standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate medical records and communication logs.
  • Adhere to pharmacy laws to ensure compliance.
  • Work within 40% of shift time on direct patient care and 20% on supporting duties.
Position Summary

This part‑time, as‑needed position is within the Emergency Critical Care unit of the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The PRN Veterinarian will assess, treat, and develop surgery or treatment plans for unwell small animal patients.

Qualifications
  • Licensed in good standing to practice Veterinary medicine within the State of Georgia.
  • Experience in emergency medicine.
  • Extensive experience in assessing, diagnosing and treating small animals, mostly cats and dogs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a team of veterinary professionals and veterinary students.
Physical Demands
  • Extensive movement within multiple areas of the hospital.
  • Carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Working around infectious disease requiring isolation protocols.
  • PPE including mask, gloves, radiation apron, face shield.
