4‑H Environmental Educator – Rock Eagle
Location: Rock Eagle 4‑H Center, Eatonton, Georgia
Employment Type: Employee (Temporary, not exempt) – Full-time
Start Date: May 1, 2025
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Position SummaryThis temporary Environmental Educator position at the Rock Eagle 4‑H Center is responsible for independently leading K‑12 grade students through multidisciplinary outdoor classes, managing animal care and maintenance, ensuring the upkeep of facilities and educational resources, and supporting general center operations.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, teach, and manage K‑12 grade students and chaperoning adults through multidisciplinary classes set in outdoor environments, focusing on ecology, team building, life history, and outdoor skills.
- Provide animal care, husbandry, and maintenance for residential education reptiles, amphibians, aquatic tanks, raptors, chickens, and other small mammals.
- Maintain and upkeep of facilities (cabins, classrooms, educational materials, vehicles), including operations of UGA vehicles, dining hall, and canteen support.
- Support general center operations, including reservation management, guest support, and project assistance as needed.
- Work independently and collaborate with staff to ensure educational programs run smoothly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science, or a related field.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Teaching experience with K‑12 students, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for youth development.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and lift 20‑40 pounds; willing to walk approximately 3 miles daily.
- Experience working with live teaching animals and customer service/hospitality preferred.
- Strong leadership, creativity, integrity, and adaptability.
Work when exposed to outdoor elements and adverse weather conditions. Willingness to lift 20‑40 pounds, walk approximately 3 miles daily, and drive vehicles as required.
