- Maintain cleanliness and stock of small animal anesthesia prep areas and recovery, enter patient charges.
- Clean cages, maintain laundry, clean endotracheal tubes, stock wall lockers in prep room, organize monitor cords.
- Set up, take down, and clean anesthesia case stations, machines, monitors, and gurneys; transfer patients to recovery after extubation.
- Assist in anesthesia case management—restraining patients, applying monitoring equipment, recording vitals—under LVT or DVM supervision.
- Assist LVTs and DVMs in large animal anesthesia: clean prep area and induction/recovery stalls, stock Colic cart, clean endotracheal tubes, make stock lists, enter charges, record vitals, and recover patients.
- Floater duties: maintain cleanliness and stock of SA OR, endoscopy, IR, procedure rooms; complete cleaning lists; set up and clean after procedures; circulate surgery cases; assist with stock and check for expired supplies; clean equipment; rotate through all areas; scrub into cases to assist with setting up and draping; shave and prep patients in SA anesthesia before procedures.
- Endoscopy/Interventional Radiology: set up scope specific to procedure; clean scope.
- Minimum:
Technical knowledge gained through apprenticeship, 2‑year degree, or professional certificate; evaluation of education/experience may be considered. - Preferred:
Experience with animal care within a Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
- Ability to properly handle and restrain various species of animals.
- Effective communication.
- Organized with ability to prioritize duties based on unit needs.
- Apply good judgment to carry out instructions, solve problems, and draw accurate conclusions.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently on hard floor surfaces.
- Manual dexterity sufficient for working with small, delicate equipment or large heavy objects.
- Wear protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles.
- Work long periods with arms extended.
