the College/Unit/Department
The Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is a fully accredited diagnostic laboratory, a member of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network, and provides services for veterinarians in the state of Georgia and the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The pathology section handles approximately 1,200 necropsies, including a wide variety of species (dogs, cats, horses, small and large ruminants, New World camelids, and occasionally other animal species such as pigs, birds, reptiles, etc.),
around 12,000 biopsies (90% dogs and cats), and 4,600 cytologies per year. The successful applicant will join a team in the Department of Pathology that includes 22 pathologists (including 4 clinical pathologists), anatomic and clinical pathology residents, research scientists, and graduate students. The department has a passion for pathology and cultivates a supportive environment.
