Position Summary
This incumbent will be responsible for research studies involving viral pathogenesis and the development of vaccines, specifically J paramyxovirus (JPV). The incumbent will also prepare oral or written reports, write manuscripts, and maintain records of the research carried out as part of this project. The incumbent will train junior research staff and graduate students.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies- Demonstrated consistency and accuracy in tasks that involve critical attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience with record-keeping practices and excellent organizational skills.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
- Work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery. Wear protective gear (e.g., facemask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles).
- Work for long periods of time with arms extended.
- Perform independent studies on J paramyxovirus (JPV) and other pathogen infections in multiple animal models, assess safety and/or efficacy of novel drugs and vaccines in animal models, and assess immune responses to infection, vaccination, and/or drug treatment in animal models (60%).
- Develop and maintain laboratory standard operating procedures, biosafety protocols, animal use protocols, and other documentation needed for completion of research projects. Coordinate ordering laboratory supplies, ordering research animals and managing animal census, and coordinate use of research space. Coordinate laboratory personnel efforts and training of other laboratory personnel including technicians, postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students, and other trainees (30%).
- Prepare oral or written reports, write manuscripts, and maintain records of the research carried out (10%).
8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Some nights and/or weekends may be required based on research needs.
