Position SummaryThis position serves as the research technician in Dr. Arthi Kanthasamy’s lab, supporting NIH‑funded basic research on neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease models. The technician will design and execute experiments, optimize assays, collect and analyze data, and manage project tasks in cell culture, mouse models, and biomarker discovery studies.
Responsibilities- Organize and assist in research projects, including data collection and project management.
- Maintain accurate records and proper disposal of biohazard waste.
- Perform inventory and order research supplies and maintenance of equipment.
- Assist graduate students and senior personnel with experiments, including behavioral, neurobiochemical, and histological assays.
- Communicate with supervisors and colleagues regarding workflow, time limits, and project status.
- Prepare reports, present findings, and write technical documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Requires technical knowledge in the field obtained through an apprenticeship, a 2‑year degree, or a professional certificate.
- Experience or willingness to perform research and assay optimization.
- Ability to effectively communicate, maintain accurate documentation, and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a sometimes‑stressful environment and demonstrate critical thinking while following instructions.
- Basic computer skills in MS Word and Excel.
- Prior experience with mouse work is highly preferred.
- Lift up to 30 pounds.
- Manual dexterity for handling small or large equipment.
- Wear full protective gear (mask, gloves, gown, safety goggles).
- Work for extended periods with arms extended.
