Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Field – Lead multi‑location snapbean variety trial to characterize horticultural traits and identify promising breeding lines for evaluation across Southeast US (50%).
  • Greenhouse – Lead trichome characterization in pepper and tomato in relation to host resistance; assist collaborators with whitefly and other insect screening (20%).
  • Laboratory – Assist in post‑harvest fruit quality analysis and collaborate with internal and external partners (15%).
  • Write peer‑reviewed publications, participate in grant proposal preparation, supervise graduate/undergraduate students, and oversee seasonal worker research activities in lab, greenhouse, and field setups (10%).
  • Perform assigned tasks as necessary (5%).

Position Summary:
  • Lead plant breeding and pre‑breeding research in a start‑up setting that is relatively new and demanding.
  • Strong knowledge of breeding methods used in vegetable breeding.
  • Operate analytical biochemistry, molecular biology, and high‑throughput phenotyping equipment and tools.
  • Apply statistical principles and analyses to breeding research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Show interest in collaborative research and ability to work in a multicultural team.
  • Obtain driving license and operate a vehicle.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification:
  • Ph.D. in Plant Breeding or an equivalent topic.
  • Prior experience in pre‑ and post‑harvest biochemistry and physiology, electron microscopy, pre‑breeding, genomic selection, disease resistance screening, and wet‑lab research.
