About the College/Unit/Department:
The lab is in the new UGA Interdisciplinary STEM research building and is funded by competitive grants including NIH R01s, DoD, and CDC. Our lab’s interdisciplinary research focuses on the interface of materials, chemistry, bioengineering, biology, and medicine. Our current research focuses on biomaterials, polymer science, blood-surface interactions, antimicrobial surfaces, anti-fouling surface, and controlled delivery of therapeutic agents (e.g., nitric oxide).

We design novel biomaterials and study their applications in medicine and other relevant fields. Our lab is comprised of an interdisciplinary team including scientists, engineers, and clinicians who aim to study the biocompatibility of medical devices and conduct translational research in an environment that promotes teamwork and collaboration.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Duties/Responsibilities:
    Fabricate and optimize hemocompatible and antimicrobial biomaterials. Time allocation: 40%.
  • Duties/Responsibilities:
    In vitro characterization of biomaterials and polymers. Time allocation: 30%.
  • Duties/Responsibilities:
    Proposal writing and data reports. Time allocation: 20%.
  • Duties/Responsibilities:
    Mentoring and supervising graduate students. Time allocation: 10%.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in biomaterials or a closely related field, with strong background in polymer science, biomaterials, 3D printing, controlled release/delivery, microbiology, antimicrobial testing, hemocompatibility, tissue engineering, microfluidics, bioengineering, biochemistry, and chemistry.

Position Summary:

This postdoctoral research position is open for candidates and will involve fast-paced, interdisciplinary projects including fabricating and characterizing novel polymers, therapeutic controlled release, and testing them using in vitro and in vivo models for cell/molecular biology and biocompatibility tests. Strong independent, self-driven researchers with excellent communication skills are encouraged to apply.

The initial appointment is full-time for one year, and the possibility of renewal is subject to satisfactory performance in year 1 and continued funding.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification:
Ph.D. in bioengineering, chemistry, biomaterials, polymers, or related fields. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, independent, creative, detail-oriented, and goal-oriented candidates with a passion for translational research and ability to learn new techniques are valued. Ability to work well in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Strong oral and written communication skills and an outstanding publication record.
