Research Assistant​/Tech

Position Summary

Assist graduate students, professor, and laboratory coordinator with various research projects that are ongoing in the laboratory and in the field. This will entail field collecting of insect samples, correct preparation and preservation of specimens, sorting insects in the lab, cleaning and maintaining field equipment, data entry, and microscope work. This is a limited term position and is contingent on funding.

Position will end September 2022.

• Field work:
  Trapping, forest measurements, and collecting field data.
• Sorting and identifying insect samples in lab setting.
• Data Entry.
• Microscope work.

• Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
• Be able to use and enter data into Excel.
• Be able to multitask and work on several projects simultaneously.
• Flexibility in schedule and willingness to travel long distances to collect samples in the Southeast and partake in overnight trips.
• Capable of performing monotonous tasks such as looking through a microscope for extended periods.
• Physical ability to work in extreme temperatures, hike to collect trap samples, lift up to 50 lb boxes of traps and/or lures occasionally, and drive.

Willing to work in extreme temperatures and endure hiking to collect trap samples located throughout the state. Lift up to 50lb boxes of traps and/or lures occasionally. Driving.
