Minimum Qualifications: PhD in preventive veterinary science, microbiology, molecular virology, or immunology.
Position Summary: The Perez Lab is recruiting a highly motivated Assistant Research Scientist to conduct research in the development of novel vaccines. The candidate will use viral reverse genetics platforms (NDV vector) to create bivalent recombinant vaccines against animal and zoonotic pathogens such as Avian Influenza Virus, Infectious Bronchitis Virus, and Infectious Bursal Disease Virus. The lab employs in‑vitro and in‑vivo approaches to study host range, improve existing or develop novel vaccines and antivirals.
Responsibilities- Lead the development and evaluation of modified live virus vaccines based on NDV using reverse genetics techniques.
- Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and prepare manuscripts and reports for publication.
- Collaborate with international students, postdoctoral fellows, and researchers at UGA and abroad.
- Supervise and mentor other lab members.
- PhD in preventive veterinary science, microbiology, molecular virology, or immunology, with at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience.
- Training and proven track record in mucosal immunology, reverse genetics of paramyxoviruses, molecular biology, in‑vitro transcription, vaccine platform development, and antiviral evaluation.
- Experience establishing reverse genetic systems for Paramyxoviruses and working with animal models (mice, hamsters, chickens, ferrets) in ABSL2 or ABSL3 settings.
- Good organizational, planning, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong written and oral communication skills.
