Position SummaryThe Shamblin lab seeks laboratory assistants for wildlife and fisheries sample processing and DNA extractions for population genetic analyses. This position will assist graduate and undergraduate students with sample tracking, processing of blood, eggshell, skin, fin clip, and swab samples, and DNA extractions for genotyping and sequencing of fish and wildlife species of conservation concern.
Duties & Responsibilities- Sample tracking and processing for DNA extractions, labeling microfuge tubes.
- DNA extractions and sample archiving.
- Dish washing and general lab maintenance.
Candidates pursuing a BS degree in biology, genetics, marine science, or wildlife/fisheries preferred. Previous laboratory experience is a plus, but not necessary. Ideal candidates work well independently or in groups, possess strong attention to detail, and have good organizational and interpersonal skills.
Physical DemandsThis position is laboratory based. Candidates will sit or stand at the bench for extended periods and may occasionally lift boxes up to 40 pounds.
