Position SummaryPosition performs cutting‑edge interdisciplinary research, aiming to investigate the pathological and therapeutic roles of extracellular vesicles in neuromuscular disease (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS) and shape efficient CRISPR‑mediated gene therapy. Leveraging methodologies from molecular biotechnology, cell biology, genetics, epigenetics, genomics, current research in Dr. Yao’s lab focus on
1) Engineering extracellular vesicles as in‑vivo delivery shuttle to facilitate CRISPR‑mediated gene therapy for neurological disorders;
2) Uncovering the pathological and therapeutic roles of extracellular vesicles in ALS, using cellular (e.g. iPSCs) and mouse models to;
3) Investigating Fibro‑adipogenic progenitors (FAPs)‑mediated muscle regeneration and reinnervation in response to denervation and other muscle damages.
- Conduct research in the lab.
- Supervision of student workers, undergraduate students that assist with research.
Highly motivated Ph.D. with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, cell biology, bioinformatics, and related fields are encouraged to apply. Prior experience in stem cell/iPSC culture, mouse genetics, high throughput genomic approaches (single‑cell sequencing, ChIP‑seq, ATAC‑seq, Hi‑C) and data analysis, CRISPR‑mediated genome editing is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And or CompetenciesExcellent oral and written communication skills. A track record of productivity and publications in well‑established journals is essential.
Physical DemandsMinimal lifting/bending in the normal operations of a typical office/lab environment.
