Job Summary

This Research Technician position works as part of a dynamic team on the genetics of grasses. In addition to laboratory research, the post-holder will assist with planting, maintaining, and harvesting of greenhouse and field experiments. The Devos Lab consists of a multinational team of graduate students and post-docs working under the supervision of and with people of different cultural backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in next-generation library preparation.

This position is grant-funded for five (5) years. While the continuation of funding and employment is anticipated, it is not guaranteed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
  • Experience/education may be evaluated in lieu of required minimum qualifications.

  • Demonstrated molecular analysis competency.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to implement existing protocols.
Physical Demands
  • Lift 25 lbs.
  • Work in varying weather conditions dependent on the time of year.

Key

Duties & Responsibilities Laboratory, Greenhouse, & Field Experiments (75%)
  • Data analysis entry into spreadsheets, data sorting, processing, and reporting.
  • Lab organization, maintenance, ordering supplies, and preparing solutions and media.
  • Collect samples and assure essential supplies in the lab.
  • Day‑to‑day operation of research greenhouses including basic repairs.
  • Fieldwork at research sites: collect samples, deliver to the lab, install field equipment.
  • Research data analysis and initial interpretation of results, determine next steps.
Plant Material Growth & Harvesting (20%)
  • Watering and fertilizing crops and coordinating maintenance with facilities management as needed.
  • Research plant establishment, care, and maintenance.
General Laboratory Duties (5%)
  • Organizing and washing.
