A Post-Doctoral Associate position is available starting August 2024 in the plant virology laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, The University of Georgia. The position is based in Coastal Plain Experiment Station at Tifton GA. Initially, the position is for one year and future continuation is based on fund availability and productivity as supported by research articles.
The successful applicant will contribute to a project involving insect-transmitted viruses, characterization, and developing tools to manage the viral diseases. Disseminate the research outcomes through conferences, and peer-reviewed research articles.
- 60% Work in laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments on insect-transmitted viruses.
- 30% Develop research design, data analysis, interpretation, project management, results summarization, and publication in peer-reviewed research journals and formal presentations in meetings and symposiums.
- 10% Assist other team members to accomplish the common goals.
The applicant should be a recent Ph.D. graduate with plant virology major, with proven ability to develop and conduct experiments independently with application of molecular virology concepts.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or CompetenciesThe applicant should have thorough knowledge of methodologies relevant to working with viral and plant host nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), primer design, molecular cloning, and library preparation, HTS and data analysis. Knowledge/proficiency in statistical and bioinformatics software to address molecular virology questions, e.g. phylogenetic, recombination, conserved protein domain, protein structure, large and small RNA, and evolutionary analyses. The individual should be able to work both independently and as a team member.
Innovative, excellent organizational, time-management, experimental design, and communication skills are essential. Should have good laboratory practices, work ethic, respectfulness to others, and commitment to a career in plant virus research.
