Minimum QualificationsRequires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred QualificationsSeeking a laboratory technician to join Biological Materials, Analytical and Biosynthesis Team through the New Materials Institute. Position will provide an array of technical support, and depending on assignment, will collaborate with members of the team involved with microbial strain development, microbial fermentation and/or analytical services (eg, respirometry, sample disintegration analysis, polymer analytical methods). Depending on expertise and assignments, tech will work closely w/ team to provide technical support (running lab protocols, data collection, sample analysis, equip.
calibration, etc) in areas of microbial isolation, microbial genetics, fermentation, degradation and disintegration of polymers and basic analytical chemistry tasks. Through team research contributions, this position will help estimate the team's success in addressing technical challenges with global impact. This position will involve extensive hands on laboratory work and coordination and ordering of lab supplies.
An interest in microbiology and applied chemistry.
Physical DemandsLift and carry up to 40 lbs both assisted and unassisted. Periodically drive to pick up analytical or microbial samples and supplies. Sit for long periods of time and perform repetitive hand movement (ex. pipetting, sample mixing, loading of reactors, writing, computer, typing).
Key Responsibilities- Assist in microbial strain development, microbial fermentation, executing laboratory experiments, quality control management, data collection, sample analysis, equipment calibration and/or analytical services (eg, respirometry, sample disintegration analysis, polymer analytical properties and analysis of samples for micronized plastics using standard analytical methods).
- Assist in ordering and maintaining supplies and laboratory maintenance (eg, autoclaving, dishwashing, equipment cleaning, laboratory cleaning).
- Sample shipping and receiving, sample processing, data analysis and report generation from experiments.
