This position seeks to understand the molecular basis of plant‑nematode interactions, with an emphasis in nematode effector biology.
Responsibilities- Conduct research on the molecular basis of plant‑nematode interactions (70%). This includes identifying nematode genes important for parasitism, characterizing host target genes essential for compatibility and resistance, analyzing genomic and/or transcriptomic datasets, cloning candidate plant and nematode genes, and using a variety of molecular and genetic approaches to characterize gene function in nematode parasitism.
- Care for plants and/or pathogen cultures required for executing research experiments, including planting, watering, harvesting seed, and propagating nematode cultures (5%).
- Collect and analyze data from experiments directly and in collaboration with the PI (10%).
- Write and report research results in both written and oral formats, prepare periodic research reports, and coordinate requirements for granting agencies (5%).
- Present research results to the scientific community at local, national, and international meetings (5%).
- Supervise student workers and provide mentorship, in collaboration with the PI, to undergraduate researchers assisting in the laboratory (5%).
- PhD in molecular nematology, molecular plant‑microbe interactions, plant molecular biology/genetics, plant development, or a related field obtained within the past four years.
