Support baseline surveys of river habitat for freshwater mussels in four national forests within the Great Lakes basin. Curate and integrate historical and contemporary survey data; assist with site selection and QA/QC; analyze data in relation to forest management and infrastructure projects; generate reports supporting Lakewide Action and Management Plans (LAMP).
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of science
- Experience with GIS, spatial analysis, data curation and archiving
- Knowledge of USFS operations and stakeholder engagement
- Curate historical survey data: locate, QA/QC, map, and archive existing data; lead QA/QC and mapping for contemporary surveys.
- Integrate historical and contemporary data with respect to location, habitat, and streambed traits.
- Assist with ongoing survey site selection and integrate geospatial data (e.g., streamflow, hydrology, land use, temperature, USFS infrastructure) to support site selection.
- Build maps of planned survey efforts and update them to reflect new surveys.
- Support regional Great Lakes data and spatial analyses; communicate results to LAMP stakeholders.
- Work with the Project Coordinator: engage USFS stakeholders regarding historical survey data and develop reports summarizing mussel assemblages.
- Primarily analytical with some field work; able to carry up to 30 lbs for up to 1 km on uneven terrain.
- Advertising Salary: $51,500.00
