Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
- BS degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or equivalent
The successful candidate will assist in research aimed at publishing results in the area of microbial metabolism and physiology. The individual in this position will be required to acquire, interpret, summarize and report scientific data to the Principal Investigator on a weekly basis.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies- The ability to perform independent work is required.
- Previous experience in cloning, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays, biochemical assays, basic microbiological techniques (aseptic technique, autoclaving media, etc.), microbial growth analyses is required.
- Position demands most of the time dedicated to bench research.
- Employees will work standing or sitting as required; may need to walk between rooms to access supplies and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities- Perform original research in the general area of microbial physiology and metabolism under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Requires acquiring and analyzing data, and preparing figures for publication.
- Assist other members of the lab in performing biochemical, genetic, and molecular biological experiments pertinent to their ongoing research.
- Monitor research supplies and equipment, maintain compliance with UGA safety regulations (chemical, biological, radiation safety), and supervise the work of undergraduate laboratory assistants.
