Position SummarySupervises and participates in the preparation of a large volume of meats, vegetables, and other foods. Consults with supervisor to determine best methods of preparation for individual food items, assists in menu planning, prepares special foods for banquets, and maintains overall appearance of prepared foods.
Key Responsibilities- Directs and maintains highest standards of safety and sanitation in assigned areas.
- Inspects refrigerators and cooks’ work to prevent food waste.
- Supervises and participates in cleaning of kitchen, storerooms, and refrigerators.
- Completes computerized production sheets, records total weight of foods prepared, and records time of menu run‑outs.
- Operates standard cooking equipment such as mixing machine, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, refrigerators, baking ovens, and stoves.
- Assists in training of new employees and builds relationships with UGA Dining Service personnel.
- Performs related duties as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in food preparation on a large scale; knowledge of health hazards and precautionary measures.
- Experience with menu planning and kitchen staffing.
- Thorough knowledge of large‑scale food preparation methods and equipment.
- Knowledge of food safety hazards and precautionary measures.
- Ability to work from written menus and standard recipes.
- Ability to plan, lay out, and assign work to kitchen staff.
- Ability to keep accurate records of all foods used.
- Ability to work long hours standing.
- Move loads up to 50 lbs; unload and stock products.
- Perform push/pull activity with products weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Repetitive wrist, arm, and shoulder motions; hand and finger coordination.
- Reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel.
- Work in noisy, hot/cold environments with chemicals, dust, fumes, and odors.
- Work long hours standing.
- Weekend work is required.
- Successful completion of a department‑sponsored food safety training program within 6 months of hire is required.
